The Business Services Center (BSC) Manages a Diverse Team of Highly Skilled Employees
Business services are intangible goods that are primarily sold to companies, rather than to consumers. They can range from IT services such as data storage to professional services such as legal advice. They may also include consultancy services such as market research or advertising. They can be purchased from outside suppliers or internally from a company’s own staff. Whether a business provides its own services or buys them from external sources, the aim is to help the company operate more efficiently and competitively.
The term “business services” encompasses many different industries, from the IT industry which provides technical support to the financial sector which handles accounting, taxes and payroll. Other businesses provide a variety of non-financial services, including logistics (including warehousing and shipping), staffing services, waste handling and administration. These services are vital for the operations of every company, and almost all companies need some form of these services to stay in business.
Service businesses are a unique type of business model that offers many advantages, including the ability to quickly generate revenue, lower operating costs and the potential for recurring revenue through client contracts. They also have the advantage of less start-up capital than product-based businesses, because they don’t need to invest in physical products. The downsides of the service business model are that it can be difficult to ensure consistent delivery of services because they are often performed by humans, and inconsistency is a natural part of human activity. Additionally, service firms must manage customers, who may be integral to the production of a service and can cause unforeseen problems.
Managing the complexities of Business Services requires a diverse team of highly skilled and dedicated employees. The Administrative Services Team manages the onboarding and training of new Business Services employees, as well as overseeing departmental budgets. The Data and Analytics Team ensures the BSC is working towards metric-based performance goals, and the Customer Support Team assists agency employees with financial and HR inquiries.
In addition to these internal teams, the Office of General Services oversees a number of other key initiatives that support agencies as they work to accomplish their mission. One of these is the Business Services Center, which increases efficiencies by centralizing and streamlining transactional Finance and Human Resources functions that are common across all agencies.
The BSC team is made up of individuals who are passionate about serving others and who understand that the quality of our services reflects on the value we bring to the community.
